Swiss, Light

Cheese Type: Semi Hard

Country: Finland

Milk Type: Cow

Light Swiss is a reduced-fat version of traditional Swiss cheese, made with partially skimmed milk. It retains the recognizable eyes, mild flavor, and melting behavior of the classic style while carrying substantially less fat.

Flavor Profile

The flavor is mild, clean, and lightly sweet with the nutty finish characteristic of Swiss-style cheeses. Reducing the fat produces a slightly firmer, denser paste and a somewhat less rich mouthfeel than full-fat Swiss, but the essential character carries through. The eyes remain, though often smaller.

How to Use

Light Swiss still melts acceptably, though it benefits from lower, gentler heat than the full-fat version, which is more forgiving. Use it in sandwiches, on burgers, in omelets, and in baked dishes where you want the Swiss profile with a lighter result.

Pairing Suggestions

Pair with a crisp white wine, a light lager, or sparkling water with lemon. Serve with whole grain bread, lean turkey, fresh vegetables, and mustard.

Storage

Wrap in wax paper and refrigerate. Consume within two to three weeks, as reduced-fat cheeses dry out faster than full-fat versions.
