Munster Gerome

Cheese Type: Soft

Country: France

Milk Type: Cow

Munster-Géromé is a French washed-rind cheese from the Alsace and Lorraine regions, holding an AOC designation that protects its traditional production methods. Despite its strong aroma, it is one of the more approachable washed-rind cheeses, with a flavor that is surprisingly mild and inviting.

Flavor Profile

Munster-Géromé has a smooth, creamy interior with a savory, slightly sweet flavor and a gentle tang. The washed rind is orange-hued and aromatic, but the paste itself is much milder than the smell suggests. The texture is supple and melting, becoming increasingly creamy as it ripens.

How to Serve

Traditionally served with cumin seeds sprinkled on top and accompanied by boiled potatoes, a classic Alsatian preparation. Also excellent on a cheese board, melted in tarts, or served with dark bread.

Pairing Suggestions

Pair with Alsatian Gewürztraminer (the regional match), Riesling, or a malty beer. Serve with boiled potatoes, cumin seeds, and dark rye bread.
